Congratulations to Venetia!

Many congratulations to Venetia Sivarajasingam who scored 7.5/11 in the U8 Girls category in the recent World Youth Chess Championships held in Al Ain, UAE. She set a new WYCC Welsh record, beating the previous record set in 2005 by Megan Owens in the U10 Girls by 1/2 point.  Venetia's overall performance was outstanding and she beat players from Ukraine, Russia and USA (twice!) along the way, finishing joint 10th in the tournament.

We are all thrilled by Venetia's success and the message sent by Megan Owens, who won all the British Girls Championship titles from U8-U16 (including U11 British Champion in 2005), sums it up beautifully: 'Congratulations Venetia! An amazing result at such a prestigious event! I hope this event will inspire you and the other Welsh players like it did for me. Well done to everyone who went and all the best for the future'.
