Many will remember Brian who taught Maths at Monmouth School for approximately 30 years before stepping down through ill health and then concentrating on his other role of school timetable. During all those years he was tireless in his involvement in chess: running clubs at the Grange and Monmouth School as well as an adult Monmouth town club. Brian was active in the Gwent league & a major supporter of junior chess in Wales. Brian was also instrumental in setting up the Monmouth Summer Congress, and acted as arbiter there and at many other events over many years. He was a keen ornithologist and walker, and would take holidays to combine those interests. Over recent years he has been in a nursing home in Weston Super Mare. After weeks of increasing weakness, Brian died last week.
We extend our sincere sympathy to his family.
