There was much to celebrate at the Wrexham Chess Club’s AGM that took place on the 26th June. Wrexham won the Chester and District League Knock-Out competition and the Second Team won Division 3 of the league. The Silver King trophy was presented to Mike Hughes for winning the Club Championship and Gary Slegg also won the Vauxhall Trophy for the most improved player in the club.

Peter Fisher formally accepted promotion on behalf of Wrexham’s Second Team into division 2 of the league. He was expectant that the Second Team would continue its strong showing next season but was hopeful that new members would join the club to increase the strength in depth.
Club President Mike Hughes said “It’s been a very successful year for Wrexham Chess Club with our First Team coming third in Division 1 and the Second Team winning Division 3. Also, our club players have done well in individual competitions and First Team captain Richard Dineley has been chosen to represent Wales in the Chess Olympiad in Turkey that takes place during August. The club is closed now until September; however, if anyone is thinking of joining and would like further information they are welcome to contact me on 01978 854676 or firstname.lastname@example.org.”
