Wrexham Chess Club win League 3 Title
Wrexham’s 2nd team have won the Chester and District Chess League 3 title after a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Penyffordd 2.
Ray Holland quickly overcame his opponent to notched up his 8th victory of the season and team captain Peter Fisher won his match shortly afterwards. Unfortunately Jim McPhillips, recovering from a recent eye operation, lost his match; however, victory was secured by Jixan Yang who battled to victory thus ensuring victory and the League 3 title were Wrexham’s.
Peter Fisher said “It’s been a tough season but we have played very well, winning 10 matches, drawing 2 and not losing any. I’d like to thank everyone who’s played for the second team this season; we can all have a well earned rest and look forward to playing in League 2 next season.”
Spokesperson Mike Hughes added “It has been a very impressive display by our 2nd team who are undefeated this season. We only have one more club night, on the 2nd May, when we are in the final of the knock-out competition against Chester. After that the club closes until September; however, with the 2nd teams success this year we are looking to strengthen our teams in depth so if anyone is interest in playing for the club they are free to contact me so that I can send them some further information”.
