Congratulations must to go to Richard S. Jones of Nidum Chess Club
for passing the dreaded 2400 barrier in round 5 of the event.
His listed grade is 2388. After drawing with his 2563 GM opponent
in round 1 and beating his IM opponent with a grade of 2409 in round 2,
he had a live fide grade of 2399.4. In round 3, he drew with an
identically graded opponent, and after resting in round 4, he was
paired with IM Sam Collins 2436 in round 5 and a quick draw was
agreed. This gave him +1.05 grading points to reach a live grade
of 2400.45 enough to claim the title, providing that all his IM norms
are provided to FIDE.
Hopefully his title will be ratified once FIDE next meet, which could be
in the ETC in Greece in November, otherwise in the New Year.
