Girls Championship FINALS

 Inglefield comes 2nd in Britain!

7th July 2013

Hosted by Uppingham School at Rutland in the middle of England this important chess event – organised by the English Chess Federation - recorded a high number of girls’ chess teams from around the country. Among them was a strong team of three from Inglefield: Stephanie du Toit, Alice Tang & Ella Hale-Smith. Inglefield had qualified after a tough full-day London semi-final, where the team had come 2nd.

There was no hiding place in the 6-team all-play-all Final where there were teams to watch from London, Newcastle, Manchester & Staffordshire. Inglefield won four matches & lost just one – by one point – to the eventual winners Bolton High. Ella scored two wins, Alice won four out of five & Stephanie won all her games.

Coach Mr.Thomas said today: “We were hoping for a high placing but this exceeded all expectations – to come 2nd in Britain is truly excellent. This is a terrific end of the school year. I want to pay particular tribute to our captain Stephanie who was clearly the top individual player at the event – beating all the Board 1 players of the opposing teams.”
