JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS EVALUATION

 

The WCU Junior Committee recently met to consider the format of the 2012-13 Junior Championships. We are grateful to those parents and players who took the time to get involved in this discussion.

 

MAIN POINTS:

 

JUNIOR CHAMPS 2012-13

 

Under 8 – SUNDAY    

11 am start      5 pm finish

All moves in 25 mins – 6 rounds

Under 9 – SATURDAY

 

10 am start      5 pm finish

All moves in 25 mins – 7 rounds 

 

Under 10 and Under 11 

 

2 days – 7 rounds

Earlier rounds at a faster rate of play than later rounds. 

Under 12, Under 13 and Under 14

 

 

2 days – 6 rounds

30 moves in 1 hr then all moves in 15 mins

 

10 am – 6.30 pm both days

 

Under 16 and Under 18

 

 

5 rounds 2 days

35 moves in 80 mins then all moves in 20 mins

 

Saturday - 3 Rounds 9.30 am  – 8.10 pm

 

Sunday - 2 Rounds 9.30 am – 4.30 pm 

 

                      

ONLY ROUNDS IN U16 and U18 may be brought forward. For all other sections the timetable would be adhered too.

 

BYES – One ½ pt bye allowed in any round EXCEPT LAST TWO.

Players may take further byes but will be scored 0.

 

APPEALS

A process of allowing appeals will be implemented.

 

ENTRY FORMS

The entry forms will be redesigned giving much more detail.

 

VENUES

Hopefully, one event will be held in Glamorgan (possibly Cardiff) and the other in Monmouth.

JUNIOR GRAND PRIX:

 

The format of the Welsh Junior Grand Prix was also discussed with the following changes to be made for the 2012-13 season.

 

NUMBER OF SECTIONS - 4

 

A and B Sections: 5 rounds (all moves in 30 mins)                (2.5+ to Qualify for final)

 

C and D Sections: 6 rounds (all moves in 25 mins)                (3 + to qualify for final)

 

 

THROUGHOUT THE EVENT(S) THE WELSH RAPIDPLAY GRADING LIST WOULD BE USED.

 

SECTION A   OPEN

 

SECTION B   1450 or BELOW

 

SECTION C   1200 or BELOW (AND UNGRADED SECONDARY PLAYERS)

 

SECTION D   900 or below (AND UNGRADED PRIMARY PLAYERS)
